Should I choose linen, polyester or hemp?
The last of the one of a kind polyester pieces are currently available in the shop. Most pieces from here on will be made with high quality Crawford’s Waxed Irish Linen or eco dyed hemp unless requested otherwise. Here’s a breakdown of things to consider when choosing your treasure:
Linen
Linen is eco sustainable, strong, durable and water resistant but it’s a natural fibre and will discolour over time and start to break down if worn in water and/or not properly maintained. When you buy a linen creation from The Ai & The Fly you’ll receive a small piece of beeswax from a local, small scale beekeeper with easy to follow instructions to keep it looking and wearing at its best.
Eco Dyed Hemp (or regular hemp)
Hemp is just about the most eco sustainable fibre you’ll find, especially when it’s dyed with foraged plant materials and kitchen waste with eco friendly natural mordants. Despite being one of the strongest fibres available, when it’s in tiny 0.5-1mm string it’s pretty delicate. Your eco dyed hemp piece needs to be treated with care and kept out of water. When you buy a hemp creation from The Ai & The Fly you’ll receive a small piece of beeswax from a local, small scale beekeeper to keep it looking and wearing at its best.
Where do your stones come from?
At the moment they come from across the world, with some being collected locally by me.
See our environmental policy for more information.
